Olympus Compromised by BlackMatter Ransomware | Cyber Protection Operation Center News

Olympus, the company known for its optical and digital camera equipment with headquarters in Japan, announced that they are investigating a cyber attack. The company has a revenue of US$5.5 billion and about 31,000 employees globally.
The company shut down most of its EMEA networks after what is believed to be a BlackMatter ransomware attack. Currently neither the attack vector nor the ransom demand are known.
The BlackMatter group has compromised at least 40 companies since June, most likely even more which have not yet been disclosed publicly. It is believed to be a successor of the DarkSide group after they disappeared soon after the Colonial Pipeline attack.

The threat agnostic Active Protection in Acronis Cyber Protect blocks BlackMatter ransomware before it can disrupt your business.
