DARQ technologies explained: Distributed ledger technology, artificial…etc

A new group of powerful, emerging technologies are driving futuristic innovation and fresh digital transformations. These technologies enable businesses to cater to new consumer demands and to set  new customer expectations. Specifically, the technologies are known as DARQ, which stands for distributed ledger technology, artificial intelligence, extended reality and quantum computing.

Over 85% of enterprises have already experimented with DARQ technologies. Many expect for the resources to become competitive assets and business differentiators. Although some of the technologies themselves have been in existence for some time, the way in which we think about them has evolved.

 What is DARQ?

Distributed ledger technology (DLT), artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality (XR) and quantum computing technologies retain the capacity to help organizations drive improved outcomes. DARQ represents a means of grouping a certain subset of technologies together and offers a new understanding of what the post-digital world may look like.

  • Distributed ledger technology (DLT). This type of tech functions as a supporting element within cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies. Moreover, DLT enables consumers and enterprises to improve data governance, electronic data transactions, and verification of data.
  • Artificial intelligence. Enterprises are now able to automate processes using artificial intelligence. Automation results in fewer errors and means that employees can spend their time on higher value projects, as opposed to menial tasks.
  • Extended reality (XR). Extended reality provides immersive, on-demand experiences. XR is commonly used to teach employees new skills, from machine operation to surgical techniques. In addition, XR can also provide improved real-time work collaboration opportunities.
  • Quantum computing. Although quantum computing technologies are still relatively new, they can help solve previously impossible computational problems. Affordable quantum computing systems are becoming more accessible than ever before.

DARQ near-term possibilities

Experts contend that extended reality technologies could make virtual learning more fun and dynamic for students and their families. For example, through the use of immersive extended reality technologies, a high school biology students could take a tour of the heart or the liver, which would serve as a much more engaging way of learning about each organ’s components than rote memorization. Immersive extended reality technologies could lead to improved recall capabilities and better test scores.

  • GE Aviation and Microsoft are now using distributed ledger technology to streamline the aerospace component development process.
  • Extended reality has enabled LEGO Wear to create a unique clothing store that’s 100% virtual.
  • Volkswagen is leveraging a quantum touting application, which are designed to optimize traffic management in high traffic regions of the world.

In summary

This constellation of technologies retains the power to reshape organizational policies, processes, practices and end-consumer experiences. The tech is becoming increasingly capable, reliable and relevant.
